About Me
Greetings! My name is Lauryn. I am a San Diego native who bounced around the globe only to discover that the most amazing place in the world was right where I started. As I dive into my teaching career I am continuing to pursue my lifelong passion of promoting social, racial, and economic justice.
After graduating from UC Berkeley with an undergraduate degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, I began my professional career in social work, assisting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. After 5 years in that rewarding and challenging field, I decided to shift gears toward education. For 2 years I worked with Earth Discovery Institute, a non-profit here in San Diego, that brings students of all ages to nature preserves throughout San Diego County to facilitate hands-on science education. Now I continue my social justice crusade as a high school Humanities teacher. I earned an M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education in 2021. My beyond-professional interests include hiking, running, yoga, cooking (especially vegan food), horror movies, and exploring the world with my husband, Noel. My passion for travel and adventurous eating have taken me to 65 countries on 6 continents and has deeply informed my worldview. I have had the rare opportunity to see a vast diversity of people, cultures, customs, governments, and societies and, as a result, see both the amazing benefits and unique challenges that we have as citizens and residents of the United States. These insights will guide how I operate in the classroom and how I interact with students. I am ecstatic about the amazing journey that I am on. |
