What's All the Buzz About?
This project is all about coffee! Students will dive into topics ranging from the psychology behind consumer spending habits to global supply chains and the economy. They will be asked to think about and evaluate the importance of human costs versus environmental costs in consumer decision making and evaluate their own experiences as shoppers and consumers. Content and Skill Goals "Students will..." 1) Understand the difference between coffee buzz words including sustainable, direct trade, shade grown, Green, Eco-Friendly, Ethical, Fair Trade, Clean, Organic, Non-Toxic, and Conscious. 2) Understand global trade including who benefits from the current system. 3) Understand the benefits and costs of various economic systems, including capitalism, socialism and communism. 4) Be able to work collaboratively with other students, demonstrating effective communication and problem-solving skills. 5) Be able to conduct research including finding resources and evaluating their usefulness for their purpose. 6) Be able to delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is valid and the evidence is relevant and sufficient; identify false statements and fallacious reasoning.
